Have you ever realized that your skillset is a little dated in some places? As a marketer with 14 years’ experience, I recently discovered that some of the skills I developed when I began my career, skills that were integral for their time have either evolved in their execution or become void, a victim of advancing technology and time. What is any self-respecting professional to do? You learn new skills and techniques, of course! This is the story of my return to relevance.
It starts with the learning. Now, I have always learned best by doing rather than studying. Practice makes perfect they say, but without a company, how am I supposed to put my newfound knowledge into practice? I have decided to market my brand as though it were a company. My website creates a destination. Social media posts, video, blogs and paid ads create the map to get people there. Once visitors start to arrive at my website, I can check and report the analytics and ad settings to maximize efficiency.
Through this technique, I will be able to put into practice not only my updated knowledge and highlight the skills I have acquired over years of practice but, through careful analytical observation, modify keywords and target audiences and maximize the reach of my brand. I will be talking about the progress on this blog and its accompanying videos as I go. If you want to learn more about the lessons I learn along the way, I invite you to join me on the journey.
